WOMEN ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND SKILLS TRAINING WORKSHOP

PROVIDING ACCURATE INFORMATION TO FIGHT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 AMONG VULNERABLE WOMEN IN THE GA SOUTH MUNICIPAL

Background
The socio – economic status of most women show low incomes and these women needed special assistance to increase their household’s income. This project intends to build capacity to empower women economically through introducing the FRFM project in order to improve the health education and income for their families.  The women economic empowerment and skills training under the FRFM COVID-19 Responds project supported by Plan International Ghana and Global Affairs Canada and implemented by Chrissy Foundation and NETRIGHT are based on manual or practical activities and are traditionally non-academic but related to a specific trade or occupation.
General Objective
To improve the quality of life for the socially and economically disadvantaged women of in the Ga South Municipality through provision of sustainable income generating activity, environmental management and other socio-cultural programmes.
 
Achievement
20 women trained in Income Generating Activities and were educated to advocate to eradicate false information about COVID-19 and reducing cases on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in the Ga South Municipality.
Lesson Learnt
It was learnt that, investing in women’s economic empowerment sets a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth. Women make enormous contributions to economies, whether in businesses, on farms, as entrepreneurs or employees, or by doing unpaid care work at home.
 
Working with a variety of partners, our programmes promote women’s ability to secure decent jobs, accumulate assets, and influence institutions and public policies determining growth and development.
